I've always created images ever since I was very young. It was a natural progression throughout my elementary and secondary school career to end up in art school. I attended The University of the Art's in Philadelphia and graduated with a BFA in painting/drawing in 1993. My current work is a series based on monoliths influenced by highways and roads. We see these structures everyday, commuting to work, taking a trip or running an errand. They are indelible backgrounds of our everyday lives that we usually take for granted. But, they are part of the landscape, inturn affecting the way we see the lanscape and the world around us. The paintings are a loose interpretation of highway and road structures I've seen. Although influenced by these structures they are not a direct translation of the area or objects that influenced it. They are taken from memory and often fused together with other ideas to create something altogether different, sometimes surreal. |
